During a game of golf between a police inspector and a vicar the inspector cheats by having a constable move his ball into favourable positions and the vicar's into hazardous ones. when the vicar discovers this he prays for divine intervention which turns the tables.

Rich, eccentric T.J. Banner adopts a feral cat who becomes an affectionate pet he names Rhubarb. Then T.J. dies, leaving to Rhubarb most of his money and a pro baseball team, the Brooklyn Loons. When the team protests, publicist Eric Yeager convinces them Rhubarb is good luck. But Eric's fiancée Polly seems to be allergic to cats, and the team's success may mean new hazards for Rhubarb.

Dig This Rhubarb first aired on BBC1 on 6 October 1963. The live-to-air Sunday night series was originally titled The Company of Six but was quickly – and radically – renamed.Alternating with Monitor, the show commented in an amusing way on items that were not necessarily in the news but with which people were preoccupied. Four or five topics were covered in each programme, including subjects such as attitude to royalty, capital punishment and the iniquities of the younger generation.The series initially featured Clive Swift, Robin Ray, Tony Beckley, Terence Brady, John Gower and Anne Jameson.
